A ROLL of Honour Board has been put up by Wickford Cricket Club to commemorate club players killed in the First World War.
The plaque features the names of 11 men who fought and died in the Great War, between 1914-1918.
Wickford Cricket Club’s original board from 1921 is believed to have been lost when the club’s pavilion was rebuilt about 60 years ago.
To raise funds required for the replacement, a charity match took place at the club’s Patmore Memorial Ground in August 2014.
Wickford took on a team of local personalities including former Olympic pole-vaulter and Seevic College teacher, Kevin Hughes and Tony Ball, former Basildon Council leader.
The board was unveiled before the club’s annual President’s Day cricket match.
The ceremony was well attended and the unveiling was undertaken by Graham Curtis, for the Royal British Legion, and assisted by Mike Oldham.
