MOTORISTS are being asked to be careful while grass verges are cut on many of Essex’s main roads.

Essex County Council will be cutting about 6,100 miles of verge next to footpaths and roads during its summer programme.

During this period, maintenance vehicles will be on the roads and weed spraying will also be taking place.

Eddie Johnson, county councillor responsible for highways maintenance, said: “It’s important we maintain our grass verges to improve visibility at bends and busy junctions.

“Verges on the A127, A1245, A130 and A133 take four passes to fully cut.

“To minimise any disruption we carry out the cutting programme at night when the roads are less busy.”

Eight tractors will be out and about on the county's roads at the height of the programme.
