YOUNG mums and supporters raised hundreds of pounds to improve the lives of people with autism with a colourful seafront walk.

More than 30 people took part in a sponsored walk suitable for families with children in pushchairs along Canvey sea wall in aid of the National Autism Society.

Families walked up to five miles from Kellington Road, Canvey, to Thorney Bay Beach.

Mum-of-three Catherine Roberts, of Handle Road, Canvey, who organised the event, said: “It was a successful day, considering I had a small events team and under 20 days to organise it all.

“We raised £276 for the National Autistic Society on the raffle and street collection alone in just three hours. We are all very proud of ourselves.

“There was wonderful community spirit going on, what with all the generous gifts the local businesses donated to raffle, our residents donating refreshments and friends and family helping any way they could.

“This is why I love my home.”
