HOUSEHOLDERS now have just days to register for the Essex Energy Switch and save hundreds of pounds.

They must register by February 2 to benefit from collective buying power to cut their gas and electricity bills. Under the Essex County Council scheme, energy companies bid against each other to get the business by offering the cheapest rates.

The more people who register, the better the price offered is likely to be, although usage and the amount residents already pay are also taken into consideration.

In early 2014, when the first Essex Energy Switch was organised, more than 4,500 registered, each saving an average of at least £200 a year.

Homeowners and tenants can sign up, along with small and medium-sized businesses operating within the county.

Kevin Bentley, county councillor responsible for economic growth, said: “We’ve had a great response so far, but there are a few more days left for residents and businesses to sign up.

“It takes less than ten minutes, it’s free, there’s no obligation and you could end up saving a lot of money on your gas and electricity.”
