AN animal expert is advising pet owners to remain calm and keep their pets safe during fireworks season.
With the darknights drawing in and bonfire and fireworks celebrations approaching next month, Hilary Hunter, owner of Ellie’s Pet Emporium, Canewdon, said: “Firstly, remain calm, this fear in our pets is often treatable.
“Vets, behaviourists and the purveyors of various herbal medications are all worth consulting.
“Start your preparations early and followwhatever of the following hits and tips suit your pets best.”
Ms Hunter recommends creating a hiding place for your pet, either in a cupboard, under furniture or in the pet’s own bed.
Provide extra bedding to burrow in and padded soundproofing via an old quiltover the den.
She added: “Above all, remain calm and create a calm environment.
"Relax, turn on the music or TV and ignore stressed behaviour.
"Fussing will reinforce feelings of worry and punishment will add to the misery.”
