POLICE are investigating whether speed wires could be used to deter motorists apparently speeding along a Colchester road.
Residents in Boxted Road, in Mile End, have complained about motorists speeding along the road after a 30mph limit was imposed to protect football fans waking to the Weston Homes Community Stadium on match days.
Now police want permission from the local highways panel, which must sign off traffic calming measures, to give the go ahead to put a speed loop over the road.
The loop would record cars’ speeds but cannot be used to catch speeding drivers.
If a significant number of motorists are found to be speeding, cameras could be installed.
Robert Johnstone, chair of Myland Parish Council, said: “We will always support residents if they are making speeding claims and we welcome any move which could help curtail speeding on the road.”
