THIS weekend 100 voices from across Colchester will join forces with the Band of the Parachute Regiment to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.

They will be joining choral leader, Dominic Ellis Peckham, in a free concert - 100 Voices, 100 Years.

The concert will feature the Colchester Military Wives Choir alongside singers from the Roman River Come & Sing Choir, the 100 Years’ Choir and primary school children from Colchester.

Young musicians have been invited to play alongside the Band of the Parachute Regiment during the concert, which has been made possible by funding from the Armed Forces Military Covenant

As well as the schools performing their own compositions and individual choirs performing, the programme will include a new commission by composer Anthony Bailey.

Julie Cuthbert, the Roman River Festival 2018 artist in residence, said: “The Roman River Music team are thrilled to be hosting this amazing concert here in Colchester, home to the world-class musicians of The Parachute Regiment Band.

"With its strong links to the military and incredibly talented local musicians and singers, Colchester is the perfect venue for such a commemorative event.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Armed Forces Covenant, whose funding has made this event possible, and we encourage everyone, regardless of their musical tastes, to come along and enjoy this incredible event.”

The concert is being held on Saturday at 2pm in the Ivor Crewe Hall at Essex University.

Tickets are free but they must be reserved by emailing boxoffice@romanrivermusic.org.uk.
