Well said Rev Canon Blyth (Letters, September 13).

I am glad I am not the only one locally who thinks the Brexit process is a total shambles and looks like it’s leading to absolute disaster for future generations.

There are arguments for and against but my research so far concludes that a People’s Vote is the only sensible way forward.

Why? Because in the run up to the referendum no-one locally was really debating the impact of Brexit on things that matter to us here in Maldon and on the Dengie.

Look closely now at the detail and the Brexit deal looks pretty bad for us.

Farming will suffer the tailing off of critical subsidies that keep local farmers in business.

The environment will lose protective rules and laws that ensure bees thrive and nutritious soil is replenished.

The local NHS will be starved of nurses and doctors from all over Europe, on whom they depend, and further funding shortages are inevitable as the NHS competes for funds with other public services robbed of EU support.

Local businesses will suffer higher costs through increased tariffs when they trade in Europe, our closest and biggest trade area.

Local employers will have to pay more for European labour, who at the moment benefit from EU rules on minimum wages and ease of hiring EU workers.

Many of us who enjoy holidays in Europe will suffer laborious border controls and currency exchange issues.

Lastly, there are the wider issues: weakened research and intelligence collaboration.

The Irish border problem; the weakening of our country’s ability to stand up to the bullying of Russia, China and the USA.

Now is not the time to stand alone.

So, it’s a “People’s Vote” for me and I will be marching for it.
