A GRUELLING triathlon in Maldon has raised more than £2,000 for charity.

The race was in aid of Pholk, a charity which enables adults with and without disabilities to establish new friendships, confidence, self-esteem and social skills.

Charity director Sophie Alderton and supporters Ruth Meads and Tracy Grimmett completed the charity triathlon at the Maldon Promenade Park in Park Drive.

Sophie said: “The money we raise by completing this triathlon will enable the charity to have more respite weekends and days out.

“We have currently managed to raise £2,300 but we’re still accepting sponsors for this event until the end of the month via our JustGiving page.

“We have recently returned from taking our members on a great break away to Disneyland Paris in which they all had an amazing time.

“One of our members said ‘I’ve just got back from Disneyland Paris and it was the best holiday ever – memorable, unforgettable, funny, hilarious and such great fun.

"I’d never been on holiday before I got introduced to Pholk and it’s really helped with my confidence, as well as giving me a break away full of happiness’.

“From the feedback we receive, it inspires us to arrange more days out and holidays for our members.”
