NOMINATIONS are now open for Maldon District Council's Conservation and Design Awards 2018

Now in its 35th year, the scheme aims to encourage a sympathetic approach to building conservation, and to promote good design and the enhancement of the natural and built environment.

The four award categories are building conservation, nature conservation/landscape design, design and sustainability.

Projects must have been completed before they are nominated.

Penny Channer, chairman of the council's planning and licensing committee, said: “Over the past 34 years, members of the judging panel have been continually impressed with the dedication and skills demonstrated within the four categories and are looking forward to the nominations in this, the 35th year.”

Paul Dodson, director of planning and regulatory services, said: “Good design is so important; from expanding a family home to large scale developments that provide much needed housing.

"This is especially true in areas like the Maldon district, where balancing the conservation of the natural or built environment with the needs and aspirations of a growing and modern population is particularly delicate."
