A PRIMARY school in Maldon has received money after winning a bid from a regional housebuilder.

Heybridge Primary School in Rowan Drive, Heybridge won a £1,000 donation to help purchase new books and resources.

The school was chosen by Persimmon Homes Essex to become one of its Community Champions.

The scheme invites groups and charities in the area to bid for a match-funded donation of up to £1,000.

The school’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association actively raises money to purchase new reading books to continue to raise the profile of reading. Parents, Teachers and Friends Association member Laura Moorse said: “So far we have raised money through community events and fetes.

“Persimmon’s kind donation is a huge boost to our fundraising efforts.

“£1,000 will buy an amazing number of books for the school and we are incredibly grateful for the support.”

Phil Standen, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Essex said: “Our Community Champions initiative is all about supporting good causes in the areas we are building.

“In a world filled with technology, reading is something to be encouraged amongst pupils.

“We hope that our donation will provide new and exciting literature that will engage pupils and encourage their love for reading. For more details, visit www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
