An artist from Burnham is presenting his work which spans more than 40 years.

The exhibition is called ’From Here’ A Retrospective: Drawings and Photographs with artwork he has made throughout his career.

It is on display in the Burnham Museum in Coronation Road, Burnham.

Peter James, 69, is well-known in the community as an artist.

He studied at the Bath Academy of Art and has lived in Burnham since the early 1960s.

The exhibition has been on since the beginning of May and will end on Monday, May 28.

Councillor Nick Skeens said: “Peter James rarely sells his work and has never allowed it to be seen outside of Burnham.

“His work is dramatic and challenging, exploring the mindscapes and landscapes of the human condition, examining beauty, savagery, sex, love, injustice and happenstance.

“It is inspired by the drama of the Essex marsh and river landscape, with Burnham a particular focus.

“You can spend hours exploring just one of Peter James’ works.”

On his website, Mr James said: “The drawings and paintings consist of black ink on paper, usually on A3 bristol board with some A2 and A6 work.

“The A3 provides a convenient size to use with a small board whilst sitting around in an ordinary room, no studio, no separate ‘art’ environment.

“Working to a standard size creates a ‘bounded reality’, a liberating discipline, as is use of one size of pen, a 0.2mm rotring.

“Scale is relative.”

Mr James also studied at the Colchester School of Art.

Opening times for the exhibition are Wednesdays from 10am to 5pm and weekends or bank holidays from 11am to 5pm.
