A TEAM of volunteers will be taking to the beaches of Holland-on-Sea to highlight the fight against single-use plastics Holland Residents’ Association’s beach cleaning team is taking to the shores on Saturday for one of its monthly informal cleans of the village’s bays.

The association is a member of the Marine Conservation Society and uses the sessions to highlight the dangers to the wildlife and campaign against the use of single plastics.

Sue Beeney, one of the organisers, said the group removes unsightly litter to make the area look more attractive and helps protect the environment for fish, birds and marine animals.

She said: “The removal of this wide range of man-generated rubbish helps reduce the harm caused to wildlife, and the pollution of our seas.

"All to easily a piece of discarded litter, such as fishing line, rubber bands, torn drinks cans and discarded batteries, can result in serious injury to animals and, quite often, a slow and painful death.

“We thank Tendring Council once again for kindly agreeing to take away the many sacks of litter.”

The group will meet at the York Road Car Park on Saturday, April 21, at 10am. Those taking part are asked to bring litter pickers and sacks.
