A DETERMINED duo are just weeks away from climbing a mountain for charities close to their hearts.

Sue Mather and Jeanette Taylor are climbing Snowdon in May for Alzheimer’s Society and St Helena Hospice.

They have raised more than £800 between them so far for the charities.

Sue, who is 68 and lives in Low Road, Dovercourt, is taking part in the climb in memory of her father, Ian Edmond, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. He died 11 years ago.

The sporty pensioner has also completed the London Marathon, Harwich sprint triathlon, several rowing races - including Ocean to City in Cork, Ireland - and won a gold medal at the 2016 British Indoor Rowing Championships.

Jeanette, 53, of Fronks Road, Dovercourt, was diagnosed with mouth cancer two years ago and felt inspired to take on the challenge of climbing Snowdon when she made a full recovery.

Mum-of-four Jeanette, who runs KCT Mobility in Dovercourt, has been an aerobics teacher and often runs to keep her fitness up.

The pair have been training for months around Tendring and Alton Water, in Suffolk, and said they are exited about the climb.

Sue said: “It’s going really well. Jeanette has raised £527 and I have raised £305 so far.

“We have raised some of the money through holding cake stalls and we will be holding another on Friday, April 20 and there will be a raffle as well.

“We are doing lots of training and have walked 12 miles around Alton Water, in Suffolk, and have walked around hilly parts of Manningtree, and along the coast in Dovercourt.

“It is going really well and we are excited about it all.

“We have got our backpacks at the ready and we are looking forward to the climb.

“Everybody has been quite supportive and they like the two charities we are raising money for.”
