AN exhilarating London-based band renowned for their wild showmanship is set to perform this weekend.

The Harwich Festival and Essex Rocks have announced the funk-fuelled Tankus the Henge will be playing at Kingsway Hall, in Dovercourt tonight.

The band will be performing as part of their ongoing partnership to promote live music around the town.

Tankus the Henge, who have been described as a five-wheeled rock’n’roll jalopy, have played more than 1,000 shows all over the world.

The group combines high energy and musical dexterity with their sound incorporating rock, funk, blues, ska, roots and gypsy rhythms - and their songs tell stories of wonder and woe.

The band, who performed as part of the Harwich Festival in 2015, will be supported by emerging act Fjokra on the night.

Fjokra gained a reputation for exhibiting uniquely bizarre and eclectic live performances which are reflected in their insanely exhilarating videos.

Born in Dublin and now based in London, the band has graced the stages at Isle Of Wight Festival, Beach Break Festival, Shambala, Boomtown and Liverpool Sound City.

Fjokra was also hand picked by Adam Ant as support for his London show in November 2014.

Opening the performance on Saturday night will be Colchester-based band Pet Needs.

Chris Berwick, of Essex Rocks, said: “We are over the moon to be able to bring Tankus the Henge to Harwich as part of their UK tour, tickets sales are going very well, as they have throughout the tour.

“It is testament to the line up that all three acts have and will be playing the major UK festivals - this promises to be an amazing night of live music.”

Doors open at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 to £10 and are available on the door or via www.harwichfestival.co.uk or from the Harwich Box Office in Harwich Library.
