SPEED bumps are being installed in a bid by Colchester Council bosses to curb anti-social behaviour.

The speed-calming humps will be put in on the top two floors of St Mary’s car park in Colchester town centre.

A small number of spaces will be cordoned off while the work to fit them takes place.

Installation will begin on Monday and is expected to last approximately eight days.

Temporary signs will be put in place to warn motorists about the work and alternative locations to park if all the spaces are full.

Colchester Council Cabinet member Mike Lilley (Lab), whose portfolio includes car parks, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience while these works take place.

“Spreading the works across a week will help to minimise disruption by keeping spaces available at all times.

“Parkers will still be able to take advantage of the great value parking on offer here and at our other car parks across the town.

“We are always working to ensure our car parks are as safe as possible.

“The works to install the speed-calming humps will take place next week and the car park will remain open throughout.”
