A GENEROUS teacher is walking pier to pier to raise money for little Stanley’s oasis.

Catrina Johnson, 38, has been working with the youngster, who has a rare form of muscular dystrophy, for the past 18 months at Holland Haven Primary School assisting him with his day to day needs.

The five-year-old’s family have been raising money for specialised equipment in their own home in Clacton as they’re hoping to create a level and accessible garden complete with a therapy room and hydrotherapy tub.

The overhaul will cost about £20,000 but Catrina is hoping to help them get closer to their target after Stanley asked for her help.

She said: “I was having dinner with Stanley as I help feed him and he said to me ‘can I ask you a question?’ and he said ‘can you help me raise some money?’ And I asked him how much he needed.

“He’s such a lovely little boy and I help him with all of his needs, so we spend so much time together.

Catrina, her sister Lena Scanu, keen walker Rose Forrest and one of the school’s dinner ladies Karly Tully will be doing the 16-mile round walk on Saturday to raise £350 towards the fund.

“I wanted to do something. as were really close and he always says I’m his best friend,” Catrina added.

“We decided to do it three weeks ago as I didn’t want to wait for an organised event - he asked me and he knows about it now, and he knows that we’re walking for him.

“I adore him, he’s never complained with anything.

“He has the most positive outlook and he puts us all to shame.

“He’s a little star and he’s got a lovely family.

Stanley’s father, Rob Newman: “I didn’t realise it was happening so soon but we always try to support anyone who raises money for Stanley.

“We’re touched that people think of him, I can’t believe it, Catrina and Stanley are both very close, she’s with him so much and gives him all the support he needs.”

The trio are hoping to do the challenge in just five hours and Stanley will be there to wave them off.
