FLYTIPPERS have dumped a huge amount of waste on farmland near Maldon.

Residents were shocked after a mound of household waste was dumped on the side of New Hall Lane in Mundon, near Maldon on Sunday.

The waste included grass, hedge and wood cuttings, plastic bags filled with rubbish as well as panels and fencing.

A green land cruiser was captured by a farm’s CCTV footage going down the road with a trailer full of rubbish, returning the other way with the trailer empty.

Residents of the Maldon district have previously feared that an ‘epidemic’ of fly tipping was coming to the area.

The Standard reported in February that a huge mound of waste had been dumped in a field entrance on the A414 near Maldon, and in March that 183 incidents of fly-tipping was reported to Maldon District Council between April 2015 and March 2016, who spent £12,624 cleaning it up.

The council can offer collections of bulky waste at a charge, whereas standard recycling and household waste can be taken to recycling centres and banks around the district.

In October, regulations were changed at the recycling centre in Springfield Road, Burnham meaning they no longer accept DIY or construction waste to stop businesses from dumping commercial waste.

Shannon Rowsell, who lives near to where the waste was dumped in Mundon, said: “We get fridges and washing machines left near the road all the time, there are bits and pieces everywhere, but to catch someone in broad daylight dumping something like this is ridiculous.

“It does seem bad in places like this, but compared to other places where it’s really bad we do feel quite lucky it’s not worse than it is.”

Maldon District Council has been contacted for comment.
