A SEAFRONT spot has been given a floral makeover.

Students from Harwich and Dovercourt High School joined forces with the Harwich Society and Tendring Council to work on the cliff face next to the promenade off Marine Parade.

Paul Day, head of Windsor Learning Community, was looking for an initiative for the youngsters to get involved in.

He contacted the Harwich Society and the Windsor Learning Community Smile team took up the challenge of replanting the banks along the promenade.

Council staff prepared the ground and provided shrubs, compost and refreshments as the team got to work last Thursday.

Mr Day said the entire operation had been a great success and he was delighted with the outcome.

“The students were very proud of their efforts and the first one to be collected by her mum took her over to see what she had done,” he said.

“Hopefully we will also get along to water the plants whenever we can and I hope this will be the start of a strong link with the society.”

Mr Day hopes students will get involved with other similar schemes in the future.

Michael Talbot, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for environment, said he was pleased to see everyone coming together to enhance their environment.

“It was a joint effort and it shows the youngsters have pride in their town and want to help look after it,” he added.

Cheryl Thompson from the Harwich Society Gardening Group said: “This was a great example of everyone coming together to make a positive difference.

“Everyone enjoyed taking part and there was something to show for it at the end of the day.”
