Review of Glorious at Manifest Theatre:
A STUNNING performance by Amanda Rowe was the highlight of this latest production by the Manifest Theatre Group.
Glorious by Peter Quilter, and here directed by John Roberts, tells the true story of amateur soprano Florence Foster Jenkins, who was renowned for her awful singing.
Amanda played the part to perfection and with great gusto and one imagines she had little voice left after five performances.
She was ably backed by two of the group’s other stalwarts, Alan Wheeler and Val Taylor, while Ben Maytham’s facial expressions as the long suffering and put upon pianist, were a delight.
Smaller roles were played by Angie Smith and Lea Friend. The audience too had a part to play as exactly that, the audience at Florence’s performances and they joined in enthusiastically.
