A 19-YEAR-OLD woman was the victim of an attempted sexual assault near a Colchester primary school.

The victim was walking along a path in a wooded area behind the Montgomery Junior School near St Michaels Estate off Silver Birch Close at around 4.20pm yesterday when a man grabbed her from behind, forced her to the ground, and attempted to sexually assault her.

The victim screamed, kicked the man and he ran off.

The man has been described as black, 5ft 5ins tall, around 19 years-old, and wearing a dark blue hooded top and jeans.

He made off towards The St Michael’s Estate.

The victim was not hurt and is being supported by specialist officers.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Chris McGlade said: “This was a frightening attack and we are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about it.

“We want to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or anyone who recognises the description of the man.

“Whilst we believe this was an isolated incident I would urge the public to be vigilant, ensure they are not walking alone and let friends and family know of their whereabouts while in this area.”
