A ROWING club has been putting its recently acquired grant to good use by sending members on courses and buying new boats.

Burnham on Crouch Coastal Rowing Club was recently been awarded a grant from Magnox to help fund coaching courses and launching trolleys for their boats.

The clubhas sent three of their members, Bridie Hughes, Kay Tavinor and Jaime Wood on a British Rowing man overboard course.

The course was held at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club and consisted of a classroom session followed by on the water training. The classroom session covered topics such as risk assessments, cold water shock and hypothermia.

The on water session practiced the techniques needed to recover a casualty in the water.

The three club members successfully passed the day's training and are now qualified to run man overboard training at Burnham on Crouch Coastal Rowing Club.

This training is essential for the safe running of the club and ensuring all members are trained in emergency procedure.

The club also used funds to purchase a new rowing boat ‘Willow’ to be used as training for members.
