A BOARDED up town pub looks likely to be demolished to make way for a new shop and flats if a number of conditions are met.
Applicant Hasan Kepez wants to knock down the two-storey building which was the Carlton Bar and Restaurant in Rosemary Road, Clacton, and replace it with a four-storey structure.
The scheme involves a retail unit on the ground floor and three two-bedroom flats, five one-bedroom flats and a studio flat above.
Planning permission is already in place for extensions to the back of the property and its use as a shop and six upper floor flats was granted last summer by Tendring Council.
As part of the new proposal, there will be a lift to the upper floors and a rear yard and patio area will be created with bin storage and a secure cycle parking area.
A Tendring Council spokesman said: “The proposed redevelopment of this vacant building is considered desirable, as it reintroduces a retail unit in the primary shopping frontage.
“It also involves a mixed development of flats on the upper floors as required by town centre policies.
“The design is felt to be acceptable and will enhance the street scene without impacting on the visual amenity of the area, highway safety and changing neighbouring amenity.”
The application was approved with nine conditions, which include a number of issues being agreed before work begins.
