AN extraordinary meeting will take place in a bid to secure the future of Maldon Carnival.
The Standard revealed back in November that the carnival was on the verge of collapse after no volunteers had come forward, despite a plea from organisers.
Several key committee members are looking to step down this year, while other roles remain vacant. Organisers had hoped people would come forward at the carnival committee’s AGM in October.
Treasurer Dave Williams and secretary Jean Haylock have agreed to continue in their roles, however no-one has been found to step up and become chairman.
In a final bid to keep the popular event running, an extraordinary AGM will be held next Wednesday January 25.
If a new chairman cannot be found the event, which featured a visit by X Factor favourite Chico this year, will fold.
The meeting takes place at the Constitutional Club in Maldon from 7.30pm.

A flurry of volunteers in 2013 helped save the event from closure, but unless the same happens in the new year the carnival will not happen.
