THIS year's Poppy Appeal is being launched in Clacton by the Royal British Legion on Saturday.

Members will have an exhibition stand at Christmas Tree Island for two weeks in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday.

Residents are also being invited to an Armistice Day service outside Clacton Town Hall at 10.55am on November 11.

It will be followed by a two-minute silence at 11am as a mark of respect for the 17 million who died during the First World War and those killed in conflicts around the world since then.

A prayer will be said by Tendring Council chairman Jayne Chapman.

She said: "It is an opportunity to come together as one and remember all those who sacrificed so much in various conflicts around the world over so many years."

A Remembrance Day parade and service takes place in Clacton on November 13.

The parade will leave Clacton Town Hall at 10.40am followed by the service in the Memorial Gardens on Marine Parade West at 11am.
