CHILDREN at a primary school have been given free high visibility bands to encourage them to walk to school.

Developer Taylor Wimpey has donated the 350 bands to St John’s Green Primary School, in Colchester, in an effort to get them walking during the winter and to support walk to school month.

Tina Bourne, deputy headteacher at St John’s Green Primary School, said: “Children really do benefit from walking to school – not only is the exercise healthy for the, but it also helps reduce the amount of traffic outside school, which is safer for children too.”

“We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this generous donation which will help raise the profile of Walk to School Month among pupils and parents alike.”

Michael O’Leary, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “Walking is a great habit for youngsters to get into early in life, so we hope our snap bands will add some fun to the journey to school, as well as keeping them safe on the way.
