A BURSTING programme of events is set to bring record crowds to the Rowhedge Regatta.

Rubber ducks will race and crabs will be caught for the popular competition taking place at Pearson’s quay, as well as coconut shy, greasy pole and tug-o-war.

Tomorrow, from noon to 9.30pm, there will be a host of family-friendly fun lined up from shore-side stalls to a royal dog show and fireworks display.

Halstead Gazette: On the River Colne smacks are going to sail up the river, joined by the Brightlingsea One Designs (BODs), Wivenhoe One Designs (WODs) and Cruisers.

The Rowhedge Coastal Rowing Club is also taking part in the Gig race, alongside many new teams to be cheered on by spectators.

Halstead Gazette:

The main stage will be buzzing with live performances from the Harwich Sea Shanty Singers, Rowhedge Blowers and evening band, Stiff in the Morning.

Face painters will be on hand to add extra decoration to children entering the outer space-themed fancy dress competition.

Emma Potter, chairman of the regatta committee, said: “We have a great attendance of stalls varying from crafts to cupcakes and food vendors offering everything from burgers to balti.

“We received funding from old and new sponsors, without which we couldn’t continue the event.

“But there are so many people who help make this wonderful, traditional event possible.”
