A WOMAN was left with three broken ribs after tripping on pavement which was raised to build a park and ride bus stop.

When the facility was opened early this year, Essex County Council installed a bus stop at the top of Colchester High Street, near the Town Hall.

The pavement was raised so passengers could walk on and off the bus more easily.

The victim, who asked to remain anonymous, claims she fell because there is nothing the highlight the increased height.

She said: “I’m in a considerable amount of pain.

“A marking should have been put across there.”

The woman has complained to Essex County Council, and was told it would send an inspector to look at the area.

She said: “I don’t want it to happen to anybody else. I just want it rectified.

“People were so kind. They all came running over.”

Another women fell in the same place the next day, suffering facial injuries.

A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “We are sorry to hear of the injuries sustained by these ladies and wish them both a full recovery.

“We have arranged for an inspection of the area and, once this has been completed, we will be able to identify any remedial action.”
