NEW speed advisory signs have been installed to slow down traffic in old Harwich.
Advisory signs instructing motorists to slow down to 20 miles per hour as they approach West Street from the Main Road and as they turn into roads off Harwich Quay have now been put up.
Harwich councillor Ivan Henderson welcomed the new measures.
He said: “We had asked for them to be installed to try and calm traffic down.
“Especially on West Street it is quite congested a lot of the time which makes it difficult to see if somebody steps out from behind a car.
“It is really welcome news that work has begun.”
Essex County Council’s Cabinet ember for Highways Maintenance and Small Schemes Delivery, Eddie Johnson said: “Road safety has always been a priority for Essex County Council and this is yet another move to ensure residents feel safe within their neighbourhood.
“I would like to take this opportunity to praise the tireless work of the Tendring Local Highways Panel which is contributing greatly to making the district’s roads safer by prioritising local works.”
