A CONCERNED resident has threatened to move out of her home over fears rats could be attracted to a giant pile of rubbish dumped in her garden.

The mountain of unwanted garbage was left in the shared garden of a property in Garland Road, Parkeston, two months ago.

Sarah Salmon, 23, fears the area is becoming a health hazard and rats could be attracted to the rubbish.

She has since told Tendring Council, Essex Police and the letting agents about the problem. Now the council has contacted the landlord, saying it was their legal responsibility to clear up the mess by next week.

Sarah said: “Large amounts of rubbish are still surrounding my home – the garden looks disgusting and we are not able tomaintain it due to the rubbish which is all over it.

"I fear it may also be attracting rats.

“Now I have had a phone call from the council to say they have informed the landlord it needs to go by next Tuesday.

“Although that is helpful, I am not holding my breath because of how long I have already waited.

“It has got so bad that I am thinking about moving out.”

Tendring Council communications manager Nigel Brown said: "One of our environmental officers has taken this matter up forMiss Salmon and yesterday served a notice on the managing agent of her rented property,” he said.

“The agents have been given seven days to clear the site of the fly-tipping and that notice was served on Tuesday.”
