AN angry mum has hit out at budget supermarket Aldi after she was given a £70 parking ticket for spending too long shopping with her disabled daughter.

Jennifer Langdon, of Salmon Close, Clacton, received a fine in the post after spending 22 minutes too long in the supermarket’s car park, in the town’s Pier Avenue.

The full-time mum, 40, was caught out after going shopping with six-year-old daughter Tayla East on May 1.

“Tayla is autistic and also has global development delay,” said Mrs Langdon.

“She’s like a three-and-ahalf- year-old, so when I do my shopping it takes a little bit longer.

“Some days she’s okay, but other days if she has a meltdown, it takes quite a while “I spent 20 minutes too long in the car park and received the ticket in the post, so I rang Aldi to explain what happened.”

She added: “They said I would need to have the receipt, but I received the ticket in the post two weeks later – who keeps a food shopping receipts for two weeks?

“I think it is just wrong. Some people abuse car parks, but people with special needs need more time.

“I suffer from blood cancer and immune deficiency – I struggle to get around myself.”

Aldi has now agreed to cancel the fine after the Gazette highlighted Mrs Langdon’s plight and said it would write to her in due course.

A spokesman said: “We have a car parkmanagement system in place in a number of our stores across the UK to ensure the provision of car parking availability to all our customers.

“On this occasion, we appreciate the customer’s reasons for overstaying and, as a gesture of goodwill, have arranged the immediate cancellation of this charge.”
