POLICE are warning business and home owners to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries in Dovercourt in April.

A green mini motorbike was taken from a shed in Clarke’s Road in Dovercourt between Saturday April 4 and Monday April 6, and a boat shed was broken into between 5pm on Tuesday April 7 and 3pm the next day.

Property was also stolen from a shed in Manor Road along with the door lock overnight on Wednesday April 15.

Burglars stole a MacAllister cordless drill, Titan angle grinder and two boiler suits from a garage in The Vineway between 6pm on Friday April 17 and 9.30am on the following day.

Thieves also attempted to force open the rear doors at Top Draw Bingo in Kingsway on the same date but failed to gain entry to the building but a black and white Hard Rock mountain bike worth £450 was taken from a shed in Orwell Road.

Six metres of copper was stolen from an outbuilding in King George’s Avenue between Thursday April 16 and Tuesday April 21.

Officers do not believe the incidents are linked.

A police spokesman advised residents to take precautions to protect their property.

He said: “With sheds, padlocks offer little protection, so invest in a good quality, well designed shed and think about where to position it.

“Install alarms and invest in lights, firmly secure the doors and windows and fit window film to glass to increase its strength.

“Fit a wire cage or secured, lockable box inside to lock more expensive items away, or anchor a thick cable to the floor and attach items to it and secure with a good quality padlock.”
