THE wife of a man who suffered sight problems after being sprayed in the face with an unknown substance during an attempted burglary has spoken out about their ordeal.

Belinda Jones’ husband Howard was taken to Colchester General Hospital following the attack in Main Road, Dovercourt, on April 4.

The 47-year-old had the substance sprayed in his face when he opened the door to two men who were trying to get into the house at about 1.50am.

Mrs Jones, 36, said: “They came earlier in the evening and they said they had got the wrong address.

“They then came back about 1am and knocked on the door.

“My husband opened it and that is when they sprayed him in the face.”

Mrs Jones said the family believe he had been sprayed in the face with ammonia.

“We could smell it when we went into the hallway,” she said.
