The outgoing High Sheriff of Essex singled out volunteers at Stow Maries to praise for their work.

At a ceremony last Monday at Chelmsford's County Hall, Nicholas Charrington paid tribute to the thousands of Essex men and women whose voluntary efforts contribute to county life.

In the ceremony welcoming Vincent Thompson, the next High Sheriff to the role, Mr Charrington singled out those carrying out restoration work at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.

Mr Charrington joined Prince Edward on a visit to the aerodrome last month.
