Residents will be forced to have wheelie bins unless they live in a flat or have access issues.

Last night, Maldon district councillors voted to roll out wheelie bins across the district and carry out fortnightly collections from June 2016.

Food waste and green waste collections will remain unchanged and recycling collections will be alternate weeks to the wheelie bin waste collections.

Councillor Mark Durham (Wickham Bishops/Woodham ward) said: “Wheelie bins for residual waste will be the default position.

“Clearly for flats or where there’s difficult access, these households will be dealt with on an ad hoc basis.

“The plan is not to allow people a choice between having a wheelie bin and not having one because that’s clearly unworkable.”
