A husband-and-wife team has created the centrepiece for Colchester’s Bonfire Night display for the 44th time.

Stuffed full of old copies of the Gazette, the Guy Fawkes figure will burn during the annual fireworks display at Castle Park on Wednesday.

Judy Alden, 71, and husband Bernard, 76, have made the figure for the King Coel’s Kittens display since 1970.

Gates at Castle Park open at 6pm, with entertainment until 7pm, when the parade and bonfire display begins.

The fireworks for the display are provided by Stanway-based Dynamic Fireworks.

Entrance is by ticket only, costing £8.50 for adults, £4 for children and free for ages four and under.

Tickets for this year’s display will be available until 4.30pm on the day from the visitor centre at Holly Trees Museum or online at kingcoelskittens.org until Monday.
