A coastguard team rushed to the aid of a sailor who suffered burns after an explosion on his boat.

Thames Coastguard received a 999 call at 12.54pm last Monday from a man on board a boat in Tollesbury Marina.

A small explosion had occurred on the boat and the sailor had suffered burns.

West Mersea Coastguard Team were called to the scene and assisted the caller.

The East of England Ambulance Service were called at 12.52pm sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer, an ambulance and Essex Air Ambulance to the Marina.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to Broomfield Hospital by air ambulance for further treatment to his burns.
