FORGET chugging along in congested Colchester!

A group of four lucky bus drivers from the town have been given the opportunity to help transport the world’s top sporting stars to the Commonwealth Games.

Darren Lapworth, Richard Coe, Aras Mohammad and Sean McCabe all work for First Buses.

It won contracts to transport athletes, officials and the media, as well as provide spectator shuttle services at the Glasgow event, which begins on Wednesday.

During their temporary roles they could well be involved in transporting elite athletes to crucial events.

They will be helping to provide services to and from the 7,000 capacity Emirates Arena, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Celtic Park football ground and the city’s George Square.

First’s Colchester depot volunteered to be part of a 700- strong First bus driving pool for the Games.

Twelve First drivers from across Essex will be working alongside sub-contracted drivers.

Some drivers will work at the Games for five days, while others will spend more than two weeks at them.
