FOUR cars were broken into during the Easter weekend in Stanway.

Police are urging motorists to remove all valuables from their cars following a spate of thefts.

They broke into a blue Toyota Corolla in Egremont Way stealing £2,000 worth of Mizuno golf clubs in a black and red golf bag from the boot of the car between 1pm on Sunday and 2pm on Monday.

A silver Skoda Yeti was also broken into in Gorse Way between 9pm on Saturday and 10.50am on Monday March 21.

A white HTC Wildfire mobile phone was stolen along with a child’s rucksack.

Two vehicles in Dyers Road were also entered between midnight and 8am on Monday April 21.

Pairs of sunglasses were stolen from a white Ford Galaxy and a silver Ford Transit van.

Insp Barry Atkinson said: "These appear to have been opportunist thefts in which thieves have targeted vehicles where they believed there were items inside worth stealing.

"If anyone saw any suspicious behaviour in any of these roads or nearby areas at the relevant times I would ask them to call Colchester Police Station on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
