Greenfingered volunteers showed judges round their town today, but will have to wait until September to know the results.
Massive co-operation from townspeople was a key feature of Halstead's blooming success, according to its In Bloom committee.
Members of Halstead In Bloom (HIB) spent the day showing judges round their town's streets, allotments, churches and schools.
The weather stayed dry as judges Colin Drew and Bob Ollier admired the more public as well as some tucked away gardens, which people of all ages had kept looking their best.
And at a lunch for the judges and invited guests, HIB chairman Michael Portway praised the hard work which so much of the town put in.
He said: "This is neither the beginning of the end nor the end of the beginning. It is the culmination of our planning for 2007 and 2008 before we start working out what we are going to plant for the winter.
Pastor Olaf Hauptmann would love to bring a rock band into his church.
Sarah Claxton and Usain Bolt have shown they have a lot in common.
