AN INDIE music fan who is passionate about languages got the treat of her life when she won a place on a German tour with The Wombats.
The Liverpudlian band, whose hit Kill The Director is big on Radio 1, took Alice Cargill, of Sible Hedingham, as their German speaking assistant.
The 18 year old stayed in hotels, booked star parties and produced promotional material- all in German, which she has just finished studying at A-level.
Miss Cargill of Hawkwood Road, Sible Hedingham, beat hundreds of other applicants to the government-funded placement , which was filmed from the interview stage right through the week.
It all started with a small online advert asking for applicants who love music and language, Miss Cargill said.
After applying, she had a phone interview, and was then asked to a filmed interview to see how she performed on TV.
She said: "It was an informal interview but it was filmed to see how I came across on camera. They were really nice people so it was really, really easy."
She then had semi finals, and finals during which she had to perform tasks like making the judges laugh, make up German slogans for the band to shout, and take all the brown M&Ms from a goldfish bowl in three minutes.
