Four teenagers are hoping a concert will help them raise money in their quest to head to a very special Scouting event.

Money raised from the concert called Music Night will go towards Owen Smith, Luke Smith, Luca Ottevanger and Sam Woollard’s bid to head to the World Scout Jamboree.

The quartet need to raise £3,800 each in order to meet the Jamboree fee and have been bag packing at supermarkets, litter picking and holding bake sales in their attempt to meet the target.

Brothers Owen and Luke are keen musicians and decided to hold a concert as part of the fundraising.

The event, which will be held in Earls Colne, will see music playing members of their family and friends take part in a live evening of music.

Nicola Smith, the mother of Owen and Luke, said: “I’m really proud of them for being selected.

“It’s early days but the fundraising is going well and the boys are doing a great job and taking every opportunity to raise the money.

“The concert is going to be a real variety so we’ve got some jazz, flutes, a singer and then electric guitars and drums so it’s a real mix.”

The four scouts chosen from the Halstead area are members of groups in Halstead, Great Yeldham and Earls Colne.

They will form part of a 112-strong Essex team at the World Scout Jamboree which will take place from July 22 to August 2, 2019 in West Virginia.

In total, 50,000 scouts will take part in the festival which aims to promote the core values of the Scouts.

The concert will be held on April 28 at St Andrew’s Church in Earls Colne.
