A FRUSTRATED resident claims the arson attack at Trinity Court is the latest in a catalogue of problems at the site.

Mary Rooke, who lives in one of the flats affected by Tuesday’s fire, claims crime is rife and has called for something to be done.

She said: “This is the third fire we’ve had here in this block.

“It is always targeted.

“Someone had their door kicked in before, the fire alarm got smashed off the ceiling, there’s been abusive language used towards female residents – we’ve had it all. We have to put a stop to this.

“We’ve got elderly people and children in here. It’s just not good enough.”

The fire, which saw three teams of firefighters called to the scene, was caused by a motorbike which had been set alight and left at the bottom of a stairwell.

Greenfields Community Housing manages Trinity Court.

A spokesman denied claims there had been problems.

The spokesman said: “We’ve not had any issues with anti-social behaviour in the last year but are aware that domestic household rubbish is not always being disposed of correctly by some residents."

The housing association also confirmed repair work would be done as soon as possible to parts of Trinity Court damaged by the fire.

A spokesman added: "No flats were damaged in the fire, although there was some damage to the stairwell and communal area. We will be carrying out the necessary repairs as soon as possible.

"In the meantime, we’ve cleaned the area and installed temporary lighting for the safety of the residents; and ensured that they could return to their flats once it was confirmed safe to do so."
