A surgery has been praised by inspectors for its “open and transparent” approach to healthcare.

Steeple Bumpstead Surgery, in Bowers Hall Drive, has been rated good by the Care Quality Commission, following an inspection on July 27.

Patients praised the surgery for the ease of making appointments and said users were treated with kindness and respect.

The report states: “Patients we spoke with said they found it easy to make an appointment with urgent appointments available the same day.

“The practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.

“There was a clear staffing structure at the administrative level and staff were aware of their own roles and responsibilities.”

Particular praise was given in the report to the surgery’s care of dementia patients and it has been accredited by the Alzheimer’s Society with a Dementia Friendly Practice Award.

The surgery also offers home visits and urgent appointments for those with additional needs.

Steeple Bumpstead Surgery has been run by operator Provide since May 2013.

John Niland, chief executive of Provide, said: “This rating reflects the hard work and commitment of all the staff at Steeple Bumpstead surgery.

“They have made many improvements to patient care in recent years and the CQC report highlights many areas of good practice.

“I am particularly pleased to note that the practice scores highly for the ease with which patients can book appointments and for the very positive comments about the way that staff treat people.”

Further monitoring of safety processes was required at the surgery for it to improve.

Liz Heyer, chairman of the patient participation group at Steeple Bumpstead Surgery, said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the CQC Inspection. The surgery has made immense progress and we are proud to have been part of its development”
