SOME of Halstead's more unusual residents were paraded at Halstead Library's pet show.

The event was held on Saturday to mark the start of the library's annual summer reading challenge Animal Agents.

Small pets from homes were displayed to the delight of visitors, who also had the chance to hold and pet the animals.

Animals included rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, rats and a budgie.

It was a non-competitive event however rosettes were given to all the exhibitors.

Julia Jordan-Burrows, senior customer services adviser at Halstead Library, said: "There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the pet show with Trevor the Budgie proving to be quite popular.

"The pet show so was very well attended and enjoyed by all, in fact the visitor figures showed that it was the library’s busiest day of the year so far.

"Halstead Library are so pleased with the success of the pet show that they are thinking of making it an annual event – so watch this space."
