A DEDICATED pair are set to face open water to raise funds to teach disabled children to swim.

Angela Grenski, of Halstead, and Linzi Gordon, of High Garrett, will tackle the Bantham Swoosh on Saturday, a six kilometre open estuary swim in Devon.

The pair, who both work for Essex Police, are taking on the swim in aid of Level Water, a charity dedicated to giving disabled children swimming lessons in open water.

Ms Grenski said: “I have always enjoyed teaching swimming and taking part in swimming events.

“I swam the channel in 2011, and have wanted to do another fundraiser since, and managed to convince Linzi to join me.

“I think we are looking forward to it now, we have put quite a lot of work in with open water swimming at Gosfield.

“It will definitely be a challenge, they say once you get in the narrow ending, the water carries you at four times your normal swimming speed.”

Earlier this year Angela became the first PCSO to become an on-call firefighter, now working with fire services in Halstead and Saffron Walden, while Linzi is a part of the Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team.

Level water aims to provide one-toone swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

Angela added: “Level water are fantastic, and the work they do goes such a long way.

“It gives youngsters an opportunity they don’t normally get.

“It gives them the chance to get out and learn in a natural environment, and you hope it can have a positive effect across the board.”

The pair will head down for the sunrise before starting the challenge at 7am.
