A COUNCIL Chairman representing a Halstead ward will support two charities in a golfing competition.

Stephen Kirby was elected chairman in April as a councillor for the St Andrews, Halstead area.

Chairman of Braintree District Council Stephen Kirby will support both Action for Family Carers and First Stop.

Action for Family Carers is a charity which provides support to unpaid family carers of all ages.

Services include advocacy, befriending, counselling, wellbeing groups, and respite day care.

First Stop Centre is a drop in centre to work with people who have additional needs in order to improve their lives.

The Chairman’s Charity Golf Day will take place at Colne Valley Golf Club on 19th July 2017 and will include 18 holes of golf, an evening carvery, presentations and a raffle.

Councillor Kirkby said: “I look forward to hosting the annual golf competition in July in support of my chosen charities; Action for Family Carers and First Stop who offer valuable services and support to residents in the district.”

The two charities are the chairman's civic year charities, meaning Councillor Kirkby continues raising money for a charity fund.

This will be awarded to the two Braintree charities at the end of the year.
