A HIGH Street bank will close this September.

Barclays, on Halstead High Street, has announced today that the branch will be closed as of September 1.

The decision is a result of an increasing trend of online banking, with 54% of branch users now using alternative methods of banking.

Barclays will be hosting ‘tea and teach’ sessions at Halstead branch for customers wishing to explore digital banking.

Jon Clowes, Community Banking Director for Barclays Essex said:- “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

"At Barclays Halstead branch, customer usage has continued to decline and 54% of our customers now regularly use alternative branches, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close it.

"We hope that the availability of our other Barclays branch at 1 Bank Street, Braintree, which is located just over 6 miles away, and access to services at the local Post Offices located at W H Smith, High Street, Halstead and Abels Road, Halstead along with our range of digital channels will help to ease the transition for our customers.”
