WE were delighted to read Ian McGuirke’s letter in last week’s issue of the Gazette, voicing his support for our campaign.

Halstead Town Council is opposed to the development on the fields off Sudbury Road and the vast majority of people we have spoken to in town feel the same, with major concerns raised about the town’s ability to cope with more residents using the surgery, schools and roads – now we need to convince Braintree Council of our concerns, and we can only do this with your help.

Please object to this development by Friday if you have ever struggled to get a doctor’s appointment, worried about getting a school place, or sat in a major traffic jam in town.

All of these problems will get worse when 1,000 people move in to the Oak Road/ Colchester Road/Cherry Tree Close developments, and the situation would be even worse still if 500 additional people moved in to houses off Sudbury Road.

We will have a stall on Halstead High Street tomorrow with objection forms available for people to complete. All you need to do is provide your name and address, tick the relevant objection points, and sign the form – we will do the rest.

If you wish to complete a form in advance, they are available for download from www.handsoff halstead.co.uk – we are happy to collect forms on Saturday and deliver them to Braintree Council on your behalf.

Even better, if you can make time to write an individual objection letter and email/post it to Braintree District Council, this would carry more weight.

Details are available on our website. Please object - the impact of this decision will be felt for years to come.
