UP to eight new homes could be built in White Colne.

Granville Developments has applied to Braintree Council to build the homes and garages on land south of Colchester Road.

The parish council is objecting to the application, saying it is outside the village envelope and that access to the site would be dangerous.

Residents felt the 30mph speed limit to access the site was not always kept to, and this could cause danger to other cars and pedestrians.

Planning officers are recommending the plans are approved.

They said: "It is acknowledged that the provision of market housing would bring social and economic benefits which would also contribute towards the district’s five year housing supply.

"In addition the development would provide jobs during the construction stage and some increased demand for local services.

"When considering the planning balance and having regard to the requirements of the NPPF as a whole, officers have concluded that the harm of residential development within the countryside and its location adjacent to the settlement boundary do not significantly and demonstrably outweigh the

acknowledged benefits which have been discussed.

"On this basis planning permission should be granted."

The application will be discussed at a planning meeting on April 25.
